IS, Smart Axess launch Citrix-based hosted application delivery environment

Platform leverages “cloud-proven” virtualisation technology and local expertise, offering reduced total cost of ownership for the ISV and enterprise community

[ Johannesburg, 19 May 2009 ] - Internet Solutions (IS) and application delivery infrastructure specialist, Smart Axess Solutions, have launched a new hosted environment called Enterprise Application Delivery.

The platform, developed using leading application delivery infrastructure from Citrix Systems, will enable the optimised delivery of applications through the cloud, from IS' new, next-generation Parklands data centre.

IBM details cloud computing strategy

IBM has unveiled a whole bunch of new products, services, clients and partnerships for its year-old Blue Cloud initiative, which is the collective name of IBM's cloud computing offering. Among the announcements are five new cloud computing customers, an Infrastructure Strategy and Planning for Cloud Computing service for customers and The IBM Design and Implementation for Cloud Test Environments, which allows clients to build a cloud platform within their own IT environments to test new applications. Amazon EC2 cloud to add IBM software images

IBM today announced its intention to enable customers of its Passport Advantage license program to deploy IBM and Tivoli applications using Amazon's EC2 cloud computing platform. But rather than develop those applications on its own, or create pre-packaged WebSphere applications in the cloud, it will immediately allow for developers to use Amazon Machine Images to build applications that may later be tested on a broader customer base, when Amazon releases IBM software on its cloud platform in the coming months. Bad Economy Good for Cloud Computing, Microsoft Exec Says

A weakened economy will serve as a catalyst to push enterprises from on-premise computing to accessing services over the Internet cloud, according to Microsoft exec Doug Hauser, who delivered an address on Wednesday at the Thomas Weisel 2009 Technology and Telecom Conference. Hauser is general manager of business strategy, cloud infrastructure services, at Microsoft. He said it was pretty much accepted that the small-to-medium business and consumer spaces are "looking at [cloud computing] adoption anyway, regardless of the economic climate." Read more
